The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) strike, which was initiated this morning, was called off this afternoon.

The GMOA claims that irregularities were committed when granting  positions in the post-internship appointment register.

Earlier, The GMOA stated that an island wide strike will take place today from 8.00 a.m. to noon in state owned hospitals in all districts except those affected by floods and landslides.

However, during a media briefing which was held on Monday (May 30th) , Director General of Health Services, Dr. Palitha Mahipala said that discussions on the issue can still be carried out while the Minister of Health Rajitha Senaratne said that the GMOA token strike was an unfair move.
